Why We Do This?

For most of my life, I spent it near or in some cases, bodies of water, hunting, playing, and overall just having a grand ole time fishing and being out in nature. Let me introduce myself, I am Duncan, currently a college student at Kansas State University studying wildlife and outdoor enterprise management. A major you don't see often in this world, and I partly pride myself on having such a unique major, even if it does make it hard to converse at parties.
When we talk about experience, people will often ask, "Well, what are your qualifications to be talking about stuff like this?" Well, the truth is I don't, I don't have a formal degree that says I am the be-all, know-all when it comes to fishing. But what I do have is fishing experience and a passion for it that has driven me to go to an out-of-state college to study it. (So maybe one day I will be the be-all know-all.) While I like how states and their DNRs (Department of Natural Resources) create places where people can look up places to fish and, in some cases, have regular checks on those places, the information is kind of outdated and more subjective or biased to those who don't fish from the bank. With technology getting better and better in the fishing industry, it is easy to find a group of fish drop a jig down, and well, bobs your uncle. But for most of us, that's not why we fish. We fish because it's fun to work on technique, and having a challenge, having the feeling of catching a fish is rewarding. That is sometimes hard to do when you go to a place that advertises great fishing, but the information is outdated, or most of the places that hold fish, you need a boat to access them.
That is what this blog is all about: sharing information and updating people on where to fish, what to throw, given what is in there, and how to react given certain scenarios. Now, take anything I say with a grain of salt. I am only 19 and have a lot of life left to live, but teaching, I believe, is an important calling that most of us have a gift for, but not always a platform, so instead of waiting for one, here I am making one of my own.
